kazaa sues the RIAA

quote:
Altnet is a company created by Brilliant Digital Entertainment and Joltid. Joltid is the company KaZaA's founders' formed after they sold KaZaA to Sharman Networks. The lawsuit targets the RIAA, two anti-piracy companies Overpeer, Inc., Loudeye Corp., and individuals at these companies.

Basically, the filing states that the RIAA and two anti-piracy organizations have developed their own technology to access the P2P networks and track pirated media file usage. Because they are doing this programmatically, they have replicated the patented software developed by Altnet and in so doing violated their patent.

Altnet apparently has sent many warnings to the RIAA and its cohorts last November, but did not have an affect.

i hope they sue the fuck out of them.

and i also hope these people will begin to realise that legal downloads are kicking off in a big way, and that if they had just embraced mp3's and sold them for 75p back when they were first around, they wouldn't have had so many of these problems regarding piracy.

here in the UK, we will very soon have a downloads chart, to run along side the singles chart, and i think that says a lot (seeing as it isn't british organisations going around sueing the average joe for thousands).

they learnt nothing from the same situation with cassette tapes 20 years ago. you should always learn from mistakes.

Its already a reality in many places in Asia. Clear pirated dvds and vcds are the norm. People only go to teh movies if like u said the movie needs to be experienced in a theater.
