I Loved the 1950s film version when I was a kid. It freaked the crap out of me. I also reckon jeff waynes musical version is teh funky shit! & Orson Wells was a tripper: martians coming to earth & distroying civilization in their tripods that fire heat rays is teh coolest.
& now Paramount studios are creating a new version. I only just watched the add for it online the other day & got really excited over it. Speiberg is helming it & it has a mega budget. This is like a dream come true. & with todays special-effects technology they could make this a truely kickass experience.
I mean come on: A battleship verses a martian tripod = kickass!
distruction!
Anyone else like this as a kid or think this is teh great3st?
Spielberg + Cruise... ought to be worth the price of admission.

I'm afraid Spierberg will show many modifications in this film. I think I won't be seeing this one as I hold the original story very dear to me since it was a good teacher from HS who game me the novel months before she passed away.

I meant to type Spielberg.
But if he can change stories, why can't I change his last name?

I love The War of the worlds too, but I've never seen the original movie I don't think, radio version only.
The new one looks to be modern times, and also (from what I've seen, and I hope I'm wrong) has few similarities with the actual story

I just hope they don't ruin it like Disney ruined Around The World In Eighty Days

OMG so THAT was the first version!?! I so remember seeing it when I was a kid, I recognised the movie right away with the weird shape of the UFOs.. it did scare the crap outta me too
I didnt know the upcoming one with Tom Cruse was inspired by it tough
The 1950' classic was awesome, scared me to death as a kid hehe. If Spielberg and Cruise cock this up, they can kiss my phat yellow writing.
