How common is kissing and hugging where you live? Not between lovers, but socially. For example, here in Brazil usually when two girls greet one another (or when a guy greets a girl), they give each other one, two or three kisses on the cheek. Hugging is not uncommon, and it's not hard to see good (male) friends hugging when greeting or congratulating.

I know this is not the same way all around the world - kissing between friends seems very weird in the USA, meanwhile I've seen Russian girls kissing each others' lips whenever they saw one another; Japanese people don't seem to be fond of physical contact either.

So, what is it like where you live?

Here in Montana...

Hugging- sorta common, like when ever i see my good friends I give them a hug, usualy end up running down the hall and jumping to them, but its still a hug hehe

Kissing- not common at all, dont ususaly see people kissing unless they are a couple.

i hear in Canada they french their mothers...

out in clubs there is a lot of kissing and hugging going on, mainly due to everybody being loved up to the eyeballs, and this almost always spills out of the clubs inbetween clubbing friends. generally its just a hello to normal people, normal people don't deserve it

Yeah it pretty common here in israel, like for friends usually male and female to greet each other by giving a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

when i go out 2 the bars and meet up with my friend, Will, he always gives me a kiss on the forehead, but thats very uncommon, hes from Australia and i guess its common to give a friend (guy 2 girl) a kiss on the cheek

ohh and in Soviet Russia... wait that won't work

but anyways in Russia we hug and kiss, sometimes men may kiss on the lips if they're related, when i was younger i kissed my father on the lips, guess i grew out of it plus america kind of got into my head

I kiss my close friends on the cheek in america, but only ones that are from europe, americans don't do anything but hug if they know each other and shake hands if they don't

...i also hear canadians just whip out their peskies and sing the national anthem as a show of comraderie

in Usa

handshake between guys occasional hug.
hug from girl to girl or guy to girl
no kissing unless it's the end of the night or if you're drunken silly


Years ago when I still lived in France I was coming back from a very long time in the USA and the guy who was picking us up freaked out when I gave him a hug..... I was too used to the american way.


Btw is it just me or do anyone else of you hate the concept of having to say hello to everyone and such ... it just gets annoying when you have to say hi to tons of people.

I don't really like hugs and kisses from *most* people. I find it quite unwelcome when my little sister or aunt rushes at me just to give me a kiss. That's why I learned self-defense

You really don't see it all that often around here, or in America much at all. I guess it was common for girls to give me hugs in High School (girls that were good friends, that is) but if a girl ever made a huge public display out of it *coughCitriccough* I'd probably dodge out of the way...

I just don't like that sort of attention, I guess. The answer is: No, it's not very common for acquaintances to publicly show affection...not even people in relationships with one another. Though, every now and then, you see two people mackin' in the theatre...that's why you get the XL popcorn tub - more to throw.

It's just how it is here in America.
