Ridiculous

Why do people use the english word 'ridiculous' as a synonym for 'great', 'awesome'? Isnīt it supposed to mean something like 'laughable', 'funny' or 'absurd'? Why and when has it started? Is it a trend?

Itīs ridiculous!

I use ridiculous when something is worthy of being ridiculed.

Don't try to make sense to the English language. Someone may get hurt.

There is your answer..... the use of the word ridiculous as a synonym for great is meant to convey that the grandure of something is of such a magnatude that it is absurd or beyond logical comprehension. For instance; The astrological achievements of the Mayan people were ridiculous in light of them being a bronze aged culture.

Or like a name for an obscure vagina infection (rideacocklitis)
