I have a friend that has done OC's for a few years. He quit about a month ago, but all of his friends/coworkers are still into them. Lately, he's been really distant (blowing off plans, bad attitude). Sometimes he even goes on runs for his friends, which to me, is pretty retarded. If I had a friend that was a recovering alcoholic, it's not like I would send her out to get me beer.

I have no idea what it's like to be on Oxy's, and can seldom tell when people around me are on them.

Does anyone here have any first hand knowledge of dealing with people like my friend? Are Oxy's easy to get back into once you quit? What are some withdrawal signs? I'm starting to think that maybe he didn't even quit in the first place, and that his withdrawal may have been an act.

addiction to painkillers is not a pretty thing. they can become a huge part of your life, where you're relying on them to get through each day, and its not just a recreational thing that you do for fun on the weekends... and when you're not on them you turn into a cranky insensitive asshole.

If he goes on runs for his friends, you might wanna ensure that he quit. thats almost a tell tale sign that hes still into it, albeit he may not be as involved as he was before.

Stay the F away from oxy, it's like heroin in a pill.

they're basically synthetic heroin...i would imagine the withdrawals over time would be pretty comparable.

Sorry to hear about your friend. If he doesnt get help and stay away from the people hes running around with, he will flush his life down the toilet. There is no doubt about it. It is legal heroin and alot of people that I know are addicted to it. A friend of mine, I just found out was addicted for 5 years and yet did no other drug at all and was on methadone for 4 more years of her life after that. I would tell your friend that he is killing himself slowly but surely. And get him into rehab asap. He will never kick the addiction on his own the drug is to powerful and it is legal. Depending on where you get it from.

I would never touch them...ever. This is just another reason to stay away by watching what it's done to some of my friends.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has been in the same boat as me: Having someone close to you addicted to them. And if anyone has been near someone when they were going through an OC withdrawal. I saw him pretty much every day for a week after he "stopped" doing them. He went to work everyday. I remember thinking to myself, yeah, he seems a little uncomfortable, but nothing like what I figured it would be like. He never puked.

And even though I've been around people that have been high (like funtionably high), I still can't really tell obvious signs. Does anyone know of what I could look for the next time I see him to be able to tell if he's high or not?

I'm pissed off because his (current?) drug use is forcing me to question my trust with him. I don't abandon my friends when they need help...but if they don't 'think' they need help, there's not much I can do.

his bad attitude could be a sign that he quit and is going through withdrawl... but it could also be due to the fact that he's probably just a depressed guy with a drug addiction.

His pupils will be the size of pinheads. And his eyes will be real glazed over like glass. His speech should be somewhat slurred. And he may be slighty sluggish. I hope for his sake and yours that he did quit because the next stop after Oxy's is heroin and god forbid that anyone get addicted to that fucking drug, they may as well put a bullet in their head. I watched my brother in law go from an E head to a percocet head to a oxcy head then strung out on smack. He flushed his life down the toilet. Dont let that happen to your friend, stop this before it gets worse.

it's kind of hard to tell when someone is on oxy, because the effects are pretty mild (depending on how much you take). it just makes you feel content and chilled out. he might have a glazed look over his eyes, similar to being drunk. he might be more open/talkative than normal, or more touchy-feely, but it won't be anywhere near as intense as an MDMA high. it's more of a mental/body high than anything... so there's not a ton of physical signs that you can really look for.

it's pretty easy to hide the fact that you're on painkillers, because it doesn't really change who you are. it just makes you feel... good.

I would refer to AAA or similar 12 step program for advice on what your role as a friend should be. As far as to trying to tell whether he kicked it or not I think thats going to be a waste of time. You're not his mom, he's the one who's got to make the decision and live with it. Maybe he should be in therapy taking anti-depressants, you might be able to help him with that step. I know ppl are aways knocking anti-depressants here, but they really do have a role. Drug addicts often take the drugs to self medicate themselves.
