oh and to answer the question..its called a reserve for a reason. if it doesnt reach the reserve then your not required to sell. if you dont have a reserve your fucked. you must sell.

that is what i was wondering. So it is advised to set a reserve then.

if you set a reserve it says "reserve not met" until it is met. they dont know the reserve though.

it depends on a few factors such as your strategy, what you're selling, what the market wants (supply vs demand), how well you advertise the item, etc.

from past experience if you set a reserve people tend to avoid the item unless they really need it. if your reserve is too high then your item won't sell and you still get charged listing fees. buyers have a tendency to overvalue their items so i'd be looking at comparable auctions to see what they're getting. also helps to know retail price.

if you don't set a reserve and place the starting bid at $1 then potential bidders might get caught in the IDEA that they might be getting a bargain. Then there's the bid wars where people psychologically bid simply to outbid other buyers.

ebay is a game, whether you buy or sell you need to learn how to play.

reserve + price too high = no sell
no reserve = must sell

you may choose to set your starting price at a point you'd be ok to part with.

just weigh up how badly you want to sell the item versus how much you're willing to get rid of it for.

how about say fuck ebay. sell on craigslist?

Im trying to sell a piece of jewelry online. I have looked at several other pieces of jewelry and they dont have reserves and the highest bid on some of the pieces is just $5. I know these companies are not going to sell those pieces for just $5. OH well i will just set the reserve even though it cost $20 to put a reserve on it.

Ebay is an easy site to use. I will give you some usefull hints that will help you take you first Ebay babysteps

1) Never reply to a investor on the first date, take his money of the 3rd or 4th day as it will keep the romance interesting.

2) Take a chance & eat a fish eye ball. Sure the white meat tastes good, but good Ebayers take chances & try new things. Try the fish eye ball, you may be surprised it tasted like jelly.

3) Hold in your farts when bidding. You dont want to let a smelly one escape while you are about to place an important bid, it may take you off your game; then the next thing you know you have been out-bit. Hold in the fart, keep it deep within your bowels.

4) Do her in the pooper, ebay will appreciate it.
