What is a the pay range/wage for an experienced (5+ years) I.T. person in the US?

I am an IT recruitment consultant in the UK here the average salary for an IT proffessional is £37000 so maybe $60000 US if the markets are similar which they prob not but hey. Hope it helps

Varies greatly depending on location. I'm currently making $54k in Dayton, OH for what it's worth. I also have no degree or certifications. I'm an exception, not a rule, though.

Hmmm. A friend of mine "says" he is earning $55k in Houston TX and only has 3 years experience.

I'd figure 5+ years would be over 60k.

I have about 7 years experience ("official", in-field experience...though I've been doing the computer thing literally my whole life), but I started where I'm at as a temp when I was still in high-school (4 years temping, ack) and I have no formal education.

So, I'd say its believable.

My college friend, has a bachelor's degree in Information Systems so maybe that's why. Was it hard for you to get to the point you are now with no degree/certifications?

I find security very interesting but I doubt I will ever get into that field. I find myself doing more business nowadays.

It was ridiculously easy for me, because I knew someone.

I started "job shadowing" here between my junior and senior years of high school and just never left. So, honestly, it really depends on the employer. I truly believe that things like degrees are becoming less and less necessary these days, but there are still a lot of people out there with that old-school line of thinking. Like I said, I think I'm the exception and not the rule. I wouldn't RELY on my scenario happening, but it's not completely far-fetched.

I live in Raleigh, NC and I'm a Cisco LAN/WAN/Security engineer with 7 years of experience. I have my CCNP and my CCIE written completed. I make 90k.
