How would you layout your furniture in this room

I'm moving into a new house soon. The only room in the house I'm not too keen on is the living room / front room / lounge / whatever you call it wherever you're from, and I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to arrange my furniture.

Speaking of which, the only furniture to go into this room is as followed:

Sofa
TV Unit
TV, DVD, Satellite Box, Amp, etc. (all which fits on the small TV Unit)
5.1 Surround System (floor speakers to go either side of the TV Unit)

Here's a diagram of the room, not to scale:

The room is very small, and although an obvious choice might be to have the sofa against the right hand wall and the TV unit opposite on the left hand wall (or vice versa), in actual fact there probably wouldn't be enough of a gap down the middle without it looking odd.

Another idea would be to have the TV in the bay window. But then that presents a problem of where the sofa would go, and plus the sunlight coming through might make watching TV a bit of a pain.

How would you position your furniture in that room?

Much love.

Never put a tv in a window, jesus. All you can do is try it both ways and see how it feels. How big is the sofa?

If you don't want to stick the TV and all that crap up against the left wall, then how about the top-left corner? With the sofa still up against the right wall. Only thing is you won't be sitting directly across from the TV that way, but rather at an angle. Another option of course is the TV set in the bottom-right corner, while putting the sofa up against the left wall.

I agree, but when we looked round the house that is where the previous owners had their TV and it actually didn't effect the 'viewing experience.' It's a property where the sun hits the rear of the house, so the light mostly comes in through the kitchen double doors at the back of the house and then through those double doors you see on the diagram. Light obviously does come through the bay window but it's not glaring sunlight.

However, I'm not keen on having a TV in a bay window in terms of it not being 'aesthetically pleasing'.

Edit: Sofa hasn't actually been bought yet. It can be as big or small as we need it to be.

Don't put the TV in front of the bay window because that is one of the unique features of the room, and you don't want to obstruct it. It would be like putting a TV directly in front of a painting. A waste.

I hadn't really though of doing it that way round. Might give that a try. Problem there is I believe the TV and electrical points are probably up the other end of the room, although there are ways around that.

I hate it, I'd rather it not be there! Although I do agree, if it's there it would look silly to try and 'hide it'.

I think it's a massive design no-no. I would find another solution.

Have you considered buying a tv stand that's meant to fit in corners? Our living room is actually quite similar to that set up, although I wouldn't call it small. Corner tv stand saved our ass.
