I'd like to come to the land down under before I turn 30 (i.e. fucking old) on a working holiday visa. I looked up some stuff but it kind of waffled about the terms, conditions, etc etc.

Anyone have any experience with those who came to Australia on a working holiday visa? I know I have to submit a $300 non-refundable application fee, so I'd rather have everything right and not risk fucking it up.

I've worked with plenty. Most of them did some sort of study which converts it into a study visa which can last for years. Australia is easily one of the best places to do a working holiday.

Jori, do you have an EU passport, or just a US passport? Much easier to get a working holiday visa on an EU p/p, though I've heard that it's been opened up a bit more for Americans to get it sorted (unconfirmed though).

Also, double check the age limits with getting a working holiday visa here. For me (years ago, admittedly) going to the UK for a working holiday, the cut-off age was 27, and it was the same for them coming here. Again, shit might have changed a lot in the last 10 years.

It shouldn't be hard to get though. How long do you want to be here? You can double your visa time in AU by spending... I think it's 3 months... working in the agricultural industry (read as: fruit picking, for the most part). A LOT of people do this, presumably because AU is so awesome, and they don't want to leave It's also good money.




Edit: Ok, so you've definitely got until 30, it's not 27 like it used to be.

I also LOL'd that there's a specific requirement for people from the US. "Must have completed high school"

It all depends on which visa you get, my room mate who has just moved back to London, struggled to find a job (she was a physiotherapist). She was granted a one yr working visa, but could only be employed for 6 months. No job was willing to employ her for just 6 months. Unless your looking at hospitality jobs.

My other house mate is Irish and he too is on a working visa, he works in the mines and has been sponsored by the company, so he can stay as long as he likes.
