I need replace my backpack that was stolen from my car the other day. I was thinking of trying out a messenger bag but they do seem expensive. Btw this is to carry my laptop for business.
I've got a messenger bag for daily use and a backpack whenever I need to carry more stuff. Although I bought an "adult-looking" one, it's rubbish. This is the one I use to go to work:
It's big even for my gigantic laptop, it's strong, and it's waterproof. Besides (at least here in Brazil) it looks like I'm carrying sports gear with me, so no one bats an eye.

Backpack all the way for me. I use mine literally every day. Might not look particularly cool but does the job.
If you enjoy any of these sets and want to hear me live, I'll be playing a 2 hour progressive trance set at Basing House in Shoreditch, London on 11th October.

Backpacks have a student look to them. I do corporate work for the legal system. No one has ever complained but it's just one of those things about how you're perceived.
The one I had I found it difficult pulling smooth heavy laptop out of narrow deep pouch and zipping up the rounded top against squared off computer tight fit was annoying.

I can't imagine using a backpack in a corporate environment, to be honest - but I am a snobby son-of-a-bitch in general. If it's a very laid back office, or you're not meeting with clients or something, then maybe, but it definitely seems to me to give off an odd image. I feel like messenger bags and backpacks are rather similar in price, unless you're going high end, which I'd guess you're not.
