Creating a Party Organizer(long term)

Well, i've recently finished a class in C++ Programming to earn a Computer and Information Science certificate from my college. hooray. Anyways, my dad wants me to create a REVOLUTIONARY program to earn millions of dollars for us. Unfortunately, if i don't get started now, i might get kicked out the house a lil early. So, here was my idea:
i want to make it as vague as possible so that no one steals my idea and takes my pocket change.
Create a program that will tell u of all the "party hard" clubs and events in the United States.U simply open it, and it will download from a server any new events around the United States. Type in where u live and it will give u local events. Each party will have the DJs to show, price, times, etc etc etc. It will also have a message board for u to tell me (or whoever is the admin/host) and i will put it in the "official" list. also, there should be a button that says "mark this event", so that on the day of the event u open this program and it will remind u "hey, this party is today!"
and then there will be a button that says "give this po' fella some change" and u can give me a buck or two.

i call it:
The Party Link

give me money

o ya, gabrielle/dresden rule!

hey, thats a nice idea...i too have been thinking abt making a "revolutionary" program, sumthing thats never been dun before...it mite just work but i doubt that ppl. will pay for your program...plenty of sites already exist that give ppl. the lowdown on whats happening in their city...for instance www.clubplanet.com in addition to this site

The idea is good, but is not so feasible, first, you will need more than C++ knowledge to make an app that works also on PDAs and Cellphones, another problem is that the information services for PDAs and cellphones are propietary, it is not like the WWW, where anyone can publish a site freely, those information serviced are privately held and usually charge for allowing you to publish on their networks.

I suggest you investigate further on the idea before starting counting your profits ...

are u sure about the "liscensing" for PDAs and cell phones? I thought you could go to any proggie website and find independent games like Super Pacman and Snake:2003 edition and Drug Wars In Space, made by regular mouse potatoes just for fun....

seriously, that could be a huge thing dude

how many times have ppl been sitting around or driving around thinking, hey, what party should we hit up tonight?

but it's gotta be easy access like on a cell phone or pda like someone said

your main source of income would be advertisements tho...unless you charge like a $5 fee to get your event listed...but you shouldn't do that till it's fairly well established

i'm guessing i could use ads along with a $5 monthly charge.

There is a successful guy here down in Socal that makes money by celling and beeping people when there is a police pursuit on TV. I think he charges $10 a month for the service and got rich (quick)

I have high doubts for this. First of all, your "application" you are describing is pretty much a website. There is no need to write a windows application or otherwise for this. That would only make it inconvienient.

The event reminder thing would be best done by email.

I think the most difficult part of this project would be compiling the information quickly and easily into one database. And getting clubs to actually care. You need to simutaneously get a userbase and club support. I suggest you start locally, and branch out from there. Otherwise this won't go anywhere.
