I would never marry someone without living with them first.

i guess the best advice is, dont expect everything to be peachy when moving in with sumone, cos when your living with the person, you spend all your time with them, and you can tend to find that you dont like their comapany as much as you thought you did..... but i guess that really depends on how long youve been with this person

You learn so much more by living with the person v. dating a person. You learn entirely different aspects of their personality that isn’t obvious while dating. People start sharing finances, problems and happiness, everything is a split between two. Living together will show your true colors.
It’s a major step in a relationship. I truly believe that people should try it for themselves. Sooner or later you will be forced to. Parents aren’t forever and it’s nice to live with someone who will replace some of the love and support that you get home…and of course if you find someone you can live with and share everything…consider yourself a happy man/woman. You got the world by the balls!

the only thing that i would warn against is worrying about "splitting things up" you both gotta go at it 100 % If you both are competing to see wholl clean the dishes first or something you wont be disappointed. Bust your ass, its an opportunity @ happiness most people dont actualize.

my husband and i lived together for 4 months before we got married. i was the one who put it off, he said he decided we were gonna get married after our second date but i didnt want to make the decision that quick. i guess i was not really ready for the permanence of marriage (my family is Catholic - divorce isn't really an option - yeah i know Catholics can divorce, but you don't know my parents!)
living together was great, we had kinda clicked as soon as we met. my husband is a totally wonderful guy, i'm sooo happy i said "yes".
i can't say we didn't have some problems, but we have been able to work em out, he's a great listener, i'm a speed talker he is calm and methodical, i am hot-tempered and chaotic, and we still don't get on each other's nerves.
i think our biggest advantage in the marriage is his willingness to listen to me, we communicate, that's incredibly important.

I seriously don't thing anyone should ever do this. I've seen it done over 10 times, and each and every time has resulted in an ultimate breakup.

The problem is that living with someone is a huge commitment, even if they're just a roommate, but especially if they're a boyfriend/girlfriend. People don't take this commitment seriously.

As occrider so elegantly put it: "I would never marry someone without living with them first." This is the way people think of it - as a "test drive", as in "let's see if it works out." Unfortunately, people WILL ALWAYS IRRITATE YOU when you are living with them, in some way or form. This is simply unavoidable. So when the commitment isn't there to making things work, it almost always breaks things apart.

There's also the obvious... familiarity breeds contempt, and seeing the same person all the time will just make you lose interest. That's why people get married first, again, the commitment has to be there in order to make it work.

That's just my opinion and experience though... I think it's an extremely stupid thing to do if you're actually serious about this person, but other people may have had different experiences.
