Wildlife Encounters

Shares your stories about meetings with wild things...

I was at my cottage, canoing on the lake and in the distance I saw a duck swimming that didn't have a head, which I thought was rather odd.

So I decided to intercept it, and as I got closer I realized it was a beaver. As I paddled towards it, it made a splash with its tail and disappeared.

As I kept going around my lake, around every turn there was another beaver just in front of me, that would appear and make a splash. I was thinking "wow, there must be a dozen beavers on the lake! that must be some kind of record"

Then I realized it was the same beaver that kept surfacing ahead of me

the other morning i went to take my dog out and there was a hawk in my backyard enjoying his breakfast of fresh rabbit. he flew away with the rabbit when i went out there but he must have gone to town on it already. there was rabbit fur and blood all over the place.

I went bush walking with my dog & a Kangaroo hoped passed & it pissed my dog off, so he chased it. The kangaroo turned around & bloody charged at my dog!!! My dog jumped up & went for the thoat but the kangaroo kicked it away. Then, an emu jumped out from a tree & body slammed the kangaroo & it was totally KOed!! My dog ran up to the emu & gave it a high five; but they didnt expect a joey to jump out of the kangaroos pouch with nun chucks. The emu wasn't fast enough to dodge the fatal blow to the head with the nunchucks. My dog did a backflip & landed in the tree; totally reverse ninja style. I knew my dog was in trouble so I sprinted over to the joey & kicked it off the cliff & it fell into a river full of crocodiles. My dog then jumped out of the tree & into my arms & licked my face.

It actually started out being a true story & i was being serious, but then i gave it new ending that was a bit more exciting.

The real story is: I took my dog for a walk & I saw a kangaroo, & went to my dog "go get him boy, go on!!!". my dog didn't know what the fuck i was talking about & didnt even see the kangaroo

I was about 5 seconds away from stepping on this little bastard before someone saw him and pulled me away. I would have been in a serious world of hurt.

Where I lived in Wyoming, near Jackson, we'd have Bison jams instead of traffic jams, and to see bears, bald eagles, moose, pronghorn, etc was completely ordinary.

When I lived near Terlingua Texas I watched a peregrine falcon hunting, and also saw the cacti bloom.

I love nature.

Watching Rabbits fight in the dawn mist, Handling Prarie dogs at college. But best one was probably when i went to scotland.
The fishing trawlers were coming back in and were dumping the fish they couldnt sell over the side. This kid decided to climb down the rungs on the stone dock about 20 ft to the waters surface to pick up a fish (either to use as bait or give to the many cats in the area). Just as he was reaching down to pick it up...he was literally 6 inches away from the fish, a Grey Seal darted up from deep underwater and took it. The kid shat himself and almost fell in!

I had a dolphin riding in the wave I was surfing back in the mid-90s, scared the living shit out of me.

See a large dark sillouhette near you in the water, then a few seconds later a fin... scary shit indeed
