Podcast protection?

I'm trying to edit a podcast in Cool Edit 2.1, but when I try to open it, it asks for some settings that it never asks for when I try to open any other mp3, then it opens as full volume static. I'm used to editing mp3's, and I'm pretty sure my file type associations are set correctly, so I'm wondering if there's some technology in place where artists can set their file so that it can't be edited (or at least make it harder). I got the file from Soundcloud.

Any ideas?

I'm just trying to cut out the tracks I don't like and some of the voice overs to make it more gym friendly.

Is it trance? I bet it's trance.

You can't edit trance, man. It ruins the flow, and causes heart attacks and incontinence.

I'd never try to improve on Armin's mastery of the teenage mindset. Just the thought makes me go all Belloq opening the covenant.

Chus' In Stereo weekly.

Chus' record label is Stereo Productions, separate from club Stereo in Montreal, although he does have a semi regular residency there. It is an amazing place though, highly recommended. I've had some of the best times of my life there.

I'll give Audacity a shot. Thanks.

It's probably a technical setting I have wrong, but when I thought about it, it would be in an artist's best interests to develop technology to limit consumers' ability to rip tracks from their sets, especially if they are from their own label. Don't know if it's possible, just a thought.
