In general practice, a "rave" usually refers to a party, usually all night long or it can go on for days depending on the event and the DJ’s, open to the general public, where loud "Electronica" music is played and many people partake in a number of different chemicals or some stay clean, though the latter is far from necessary. The number of people at the event is unimportant; it can range from 50 people to 25,000 people. The cost of attendance is also unimportant - there have been good raves and bad raves at both ends of the cost spectrum (though in practice, the higher the price, the more commercial the event, and the lower the quality). At a rave, the DJ is a shaman, a priest, a channeller of energy - they control the psychic voyages of the dancers through his choice in hard-to-find music and their skill in manipulating that music, sometimes working with just a set of beats and samples, into a tapestry of mind bending music. A large part of the concept of raves is built upon sensory overload - a barrage of audio and very often-visual stimuli are brought together to elevate people into an altered state of physical or psychological existence.

Frankie Bones introduced raves (in the underground party sense) ... by throwing a series of big underground partys. They were known as the Storm Raves. Many promotors give Mr.Bones credit as the founding father of raves in America. It was at one of these Storm Raves that Mr. Bones gave a very important speech after one of his very powerful sets. He explained what the scene was about ... Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. When he finished everybody in the warehouse waved their hands in the air in complete unity. For many it was the most beautiful speech anyone has ever heard ... all the old skoolers still talked about Frankie's speech.
They talked about it so much that PLUR became the acronym for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect.

Some of it is irrelevant. but that's the story of the word "rave" as in "party"

Hey Swamper it true I didnt write this definiton. I found it in this web site about raves, I didnt say wrote it I just want to see what else you guys have to say about it.
