usb memory sticks

hey, looking at getting one of these for school...so i don't have to keep buying/burning cd-rs

anyone know some good ones to recommend (~128-256mb)...only preferences are that i've noticed some don't need drivers, so that would be heaps cool...and that some are bootable (not really needed, just curious about it )

errmm...just incase u don't know what i'm on about...here's a link
http://www.compucon.com/countries/a...r/flexistor.htm

so anyone use something like this?

pros/cons?!?!

thanks!!!

um.. let me just correct u, THAT (above link) is NOT! a memory stick. It is commonly referred to as a thumb drive, or a keychain drive or something of that effect. A memory-stick is a proprietary technology from Sony that they use in digicams etc.

now back to the topic:

I am more of a fan of teh expandable stuff. i bought a 5in1 reader (usb) when i was in HK. It was like $20. then u will need a CF (compact flash) card, but u can expand it lateron.

on the drivers:
in winxp and win2k I don't think u need drivers, but with 98 etc. u will probably (even with WinME, i think)

quote:
Windows 98 users install a driver off the supplied CD-ROM

this is the 'up-scale' version of my thing. The cool part is that it comes with a 'cut' CD (small) which fits nicely into the sleeve that is provided for teh reader, so u can carry it around at all times. Plus if u ever get a digicam, chances are that u can use this!!

anyhow, i love my thing, it was all i used when i was in HK

I remember first seeing these while I was looking through a Air Mall magazine on the airplane while I was going to Arizona in August. I thought they were a good idea but forgot to price them when I came back home. How much do they cost cause I might buy one?

That's fairly cheap...if you find any reviews or anything on them please post them here so I can take a look also. Using one of these would be much easier than toying around w/ a zip drive and carting it from house to house (which is how I currently transfer data to a friends house).
