Question Windows XP: Corporate Edition CD (full version) is NOT bootable! WHY?

My friend tried to install this onto his PC which has NO OS on it and I figured that since it is the full version of an OS, it HAS to be bootable. But, NOOOOOOOO it's not! I didn't know because I have the same CD and since when I installed it, I had WinME, I didn't have to deal with this problem. How can he install WinXP Corp. WITHOUT installing an older version of Windows before attempting to install XP? Here's the contents of the root directory of the CD:

Folders:
DOCS
I386
SUPPORT
VALUEADD

Files:
SETUP.EXE
WIN51
WIN51IP
README.HTM
AUTORUN.INF

What can he do here? Thanks if anyone knows...

Have your friend succeeded in booting from other CDs? Maybe he need to set up the boot sequence in his BIOS settings?

So what we're assuming that the computer is not set to boot from the CD ROM (set in BIOS as mentioned above)?

Can you read the CD from DOS after bootup? (or is DOS even there?)

I know on the Windows2000 CD there is a utility called Makeboot.exe that will create floppy setup disks in case your CD ROM is not bootable. T-C says 6 floppies...

If nothing is on the CD then use this
http://www.pureperformance.com/js/showtip.asp?id=103

That should do it

Guys its a known fact that winxp doesn't boot !

I use a release of WINXP CORP + SP1 already (kind of new)

Microsoft.Windows.XP.Corporate.Edition.SP1.Intergrated.PROPER-RFM

Its the only bootable version of WINXP i found, and by the way, it rocks !

if it really is a full OS cd, then these guys are right. you have to set your friends BIOS so that it will boot to the CD. just boot up and hit f2 or del (depending on the motherboard) and go into your bootdevices and select the CD rom as the primary device. restart the computer and it should boot right into the setup program or you get a prompt that says press any key to boot from cd.
you can also boot from floopy disks. I don't know the command for windows XP, but as was stated earlier for win2k there is a makeboot command in the CD rom which will make the bootdisks.

Making the BIOS boot from the CD first is the FIRST thing I did! I even did it BEFORE attempting to boot it with the CD in there! I heard of that 6 floppy method, in fact, I even have the program that creates the floppies! My GF is going to bring me Windows 98 (WHICH SHOULD BE BOOTABLE SINCE IT IS A FULL OS CD AND OTHER PEOPLE THAT I KNOW HAVE BOOTED WITH IT BEFORE) and I'm going to install taht onto his PC and then when I put WinXP in, select "New Installation". My question now is: WHY ISN'T WINDOWS XP BOOTABLE? Also, to the person who said "(or is DOS even there?)": No, there is NOTHING on his PC. His HDD was wiped by the BootIt NG DOS floppy disk program from http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/.

What does the "Intergrated" and "PROPER" mean at the end?

Yes, Linux Mandrake 8.2: CD 1: Installation but, for that, there was NO graphics because his system is 350 MHz, 256 MB RAM and the minimum requirement is a i586...

Hmm, if your cd wont boot at startup and you want to install XP from it, Heres an alternative, If you have the Win98 startup floppy disc, Put up with it and let it boot from floppy, Select to start the computer with the cd rom suport, After it loads, you will be able to acess the CD rom with the XP CD on it, Then create a folder on drive C: called I386, On the dos screen, Type md i386, It will create the folder I386 on the C: drive, Next you need to copy the I386 thats on the CD Rom to that folder you created, On the C: prompt, Type cd i386 and press enter, You will see this C:\I386, Once your in there, Go to the CD Rom, It could be drive D: E: or G: depending if you have any more harddrives around, For example, type D:\ and then press enter, You will be in the D: prompt, Now type cd i386 to bring up the D:\I386 prompt, From there, Type Copy *.* C:\I386 and then press enter, It will start copying on the files from the I386 from the CD Rom to the I386 folder on your harddrive, Once its done, Go back to the C: prompt by typing C:\ and press enter to go back to C:\I386, Once your in that folder on drive C: type winnt and it will run the setup to install XP and your set, Be sure to have the product key when it ask to type it in.

Lol, Intergrated means that the cd installs SP1 (the improved xp) at the first install, not requiring any upgrades...

and proper, is the hacking group that made this release
