Q & A WITH THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS
Growing up in a family with an extensive background in music, when
was the moment you boys realized music was your calling, and that
DJing/producing would be your career instead of a mere pastime?
We've known since a really early age that our whole life had to be
based on music, there was just no way around it! We were playing in
bands at a really early age and DJing didn't come 'til much later,
but once we really got involved in the whole DJ thing, we knew that
this was it and especially when we started playing for live
audiences; we just knew that this is what we wanted to do.
At a young age, the afterhours scene must be relatively new to you.
Was Stereo your first afterhours experience? How do your DJ sets
differ from a club to afterhours setting?
Stereo definitely wasn't our first afterhours experience but we would
definitely say it’s a unique one. There's a certain vibe there which
is really incredible and we just love it! We prefer playing the
longer, after hour sets just because it really allows for a "journey"
u can play all different types of stuff in the span of 8 hours which
is hard to do when u do the 2 hour shorter sets! And it works more
for us because sometimes it can take a little while for us to get in
a groove, so we have more time to feel ourselves, the crowd and each
other out!
Your DJ setup consists of a laptop with Traktor running through 4
CD players, a mixer, and 2 X1 controllers. It seems as if there’s a
new machine added to the setup every 6 months. Is there something
else on the market that you’re waiting for that your current setup
doesn’t already allow you to do?
Right now we're super happy with our setup and super comfortable
which I think is most important! With that setup we can pretty much
do anything that we desire as of right now, but if we come up with
any ideas, we definitely won't hesitate to add any more gear on!
You guys will be performing at Stereo on November 26th as part of
the club’s month long 11 Year Anniversary. How has your perspective
on Stereo changed since your first appearance?
Honestly it really does get better every time we go there, really!
The first times we played there were amazing, but we kind of went in
there with the mind set that we kind of had to prove ourselves. To us
Stereo is an important and special place, so we always wanted to
leave a good impression with the people that go there. We feel, as of
late, that we're starting to gain the trust of the people that go
there, and we love that, because now we can connect even deeper with
the audience and just really do what we want!
Last question for you young rock stars. How has your career helped
your sex life?
We would most definitely be lying if we said that is hasn't haha!
