The Quality Gear Discussion Thread (Midi Controllers XONE 1D)

So my so called first original mixer i bought is starting to fall apart after 7 month of use.... the Behringer DDM4000 buttons are sticking in, knobs are about to fall off... Time for a new mixer

I know somebody who can sell me their RANE without the eq for fairly cheap so I consider it an option, from what I have heard I really liked the resonance on it, sounds pretty powerful by itself. Paired up with an Eq it comes out to about 1500$ or less...

One problem that I see with it is that you would need a special case for it, or rails, I am not really sure how it works, it would be pretty hard to move around without a case imo.

Now we take the Xone92. I only hear good things about it, 4band EQ, great sounding mixer, easy to take anywhere with you without a need for a case. plus it has 2 built in filters. A little on the pricier side - 1800$

My set up will be the mixer, traktor, timecoded cdjs and a Traktor KONTROL x1

I would like to know all the dirt on these 2 mixers since I know a lot of you have used them, at least the Xone92 for sure. And if you wanna recommend a better mixer for mixing techno/minimal tech I am open to suggestions

i just got myself the rane with the eq expander. very nice. but you will def need something to put it in as the inputs are UNDERNEATH the units. you will either need to buy a rackmount, make a table to fit it in or something like this (http://www.guitarcenter.com/SKB-DJ-...996-i1150916.gc). if you look hard enough, you can get both for under 1500.

the xone 92 is another great choice. you can't go wrong, but 1800? you can get it at moog for 1500 (maybe 1600). i have the 62 and i realllllly like it. i actually prefer the eq's on it over the 92. and you can get it cheap.

do you want a rotary mixer or a linear mixer? because they're both very different. seems like you're comparing apples with oranges. i think for techno/minimal, the xone may be a better option, but that's just me.

Rane all the way for me, no doubt about it.

The sound is better, more powerful and warmer. And you have more room for your fingers. I personally like the feel of rotary a lot more also, but not everybody will agree on that, specially the european DJs.

Behringer sucks ass.

they do make decent speakers/monitors/PA's for the price, but that is about it.

It really depends on how you mix. The Rane has better sound, (the 92 is not far behind), but if you mix aggressively the rotary knobs have s steeper curve.

You have not been doing this that long, so you don't need to worry about top of the line gear (they both are, although xone has better things on the horizon, and also have rotary options available..) unless you are 100% sure that this kind of money is something that is not a problem.

If you really wanted top line rotary gear check out Urei products as they put (in my opinion) Rane to shame. The internet is way better than Moog. use moog to try and internet to buy. I use a Korg Zero 8 that i got for almost 25% less than moog offered by doing research

also mixing without eqs is a completely different ball game (depends on your style)...try it a few times first before breaking the bank

why did you buy cdj's for traktor? control vinyls > cdjs imo

It is the one i used... DDM4000

UREI mixers are way too expensive lol, The reason I am aiming for the xone cause its so compact and easy to move around, for a rane its another 500$ investment for a case..

I wanted to learn to beatmatch, it actually came pretty quickly... Also to play anywhere you need to know how to play with cdjs nowadays...

I mix with eqs from like 2nd month btw.

He might as well get used to CDJs control because you won't find any turntables in club when he will start having gigs.

and Freak is right, Rane or Xone are expensive equipement for home use, do you really need such high quality?
