Erphun's rant… ouch !

Found on his facebook:

"I know there are a lot of fake, worthless people out there that call themselves "artists" and some even have other people make their music for them while they have NO knowledge about production, but at least, someone else is "making" the music for them.
I always try to keep my distance from these "artists", especially the fake worthless ones, but this is going too far and it needs to be spread so NIEREICH's so called career be crushed as he's doing a great deal of damage to a lot of respectable labels out there, never mind making it personal with my own, Brood Audio. I trusted him and I released his music. It turns out ALL of his music is ripped from other artists big tracks, like Len Faki, Jeff Mills, Monoloc, on and on.
I don't go after anyone unless they cause me or something I value harm, such as my label that I've worked SO hard in making it and the respect it has today.

Example:
http://soundcloud.com/nachtstrom-sc...-niereich-brett

listen to the last track on there...

And then listen to "Bells" by Jeff Mills
It is obvious that he pitched down Bells and COPIED the exact same hook.

Len Faki - BX3
Niereich - Depression [Brood Audio]

Again listen to the hook in both tracks, tone and note of it.

Honestly, I'm too embarrassed to post the rest. I'm devastated that someone would do this in the first place, yet alone taint the image of Brood Audio.

He denied of course once confronted that he was just using samples from sample packs downloaded from the internet. Apparently he doesn't know the difference between a sample and COPYING a groove from another track.

All of his music will be deleted from Beatport on Brood.
I've also messaged my close friends and collegues and labels about this fake, worthless wannabe so he doesn't cause more damage.

The most interesting and amusing part is that this little prick ALWAYS had a huge ego with me as he's big shit. lol

Peter Linsberger's moniker "Niereich" means "never rich"

maybe he should make a new moniker: Never Rich so I STEAL! "

- Erphun

so was he using actual tracks ? or copying arrangements. Because unless you use actual audio from a track, you aren't infringing on a copyright. Unless i suppose you take the melody but so many tracks , from a musicologists point of view do not have an actual melody. And accentuating a chord progression is not usually considered a melody.

Seems this is more political as i can't remember the last time someone sue over CI for copying a track. Especially in EDM.

Probably was caught taking 8 bars and just repeating those 8 bars while adding a cow bell. Gotta have a cowbell.

Coyu, head of the Suara label, posted on FB that someone was posting actual tracks from his roster on Soundcloud under different names. Only slight variations on the artwork too.

I totally get it, but to be a dick, if he didn't recognize the hook from The Bells....I mean it's a pretty genre defining track for the period and a techno guy should be able to spot that.

Sample based music is everywhere. I buy tons of bootleg records with minor changes in them (like the Tangoterje/Todd Terje Henrik Schwarz/Unknown -Unknown you just find on discogs). It is getting out of hand though, but then again if it didn't get out of hand once upon a time the epic era of hip hop would never have happened....

Half of the tracks from the epic era of Detroit techno where sampled from stuff like mad. Same thing with house. Same thing with Elvis, The Rolling Stones, and the biggest plagiarists of all time, Led Zeppelin.

I don't condone ripping anyone off, my friend just snuck some fake Chinese Viagra in my coffee. Since there is nothing adequate to stick it in at the moment i thought an internet tirade about something that has been happening forever would alleviate blood loss in my medulla oblongata.

Good artists copy, great artists steal et al.

Look at that Love Recyled album Solomun released and everyone and their grandmother were going apeshit over a straight up Curtis Mayfield/Michael Macdonald (Who Warren G ripped off) rip off. Soul Clap released a fucking Stevie wonder song as their own ffs.

*bows*

It's getting bigger guys.

Yea but I think there's a difference between ripping off a song and ripping off a track...

Well when you take a song and make your own version, more often than not you are doing it for the vocals. So in essence it's like making a remix, creating your own rhythm and melody and blending them with the vocal elements of the original. I realize that in most cases the producers should label them as remixes but let's be realistic here if they did that I think their chances of getting the stuff approved for release are slim.

When a guy like the one Erphun is referring to, takes a a vocal-less techno track, he's not really trying to put his own spin on the original, but rather is just trying to rip it off and claim it as his own. I'm sure if you talked to producers like Soul Clap and Solomun, they'll have no problem telling you where the source material comes from and how exactly they altered it. But in a case like the one above, they will never admit it.

That was my first thought. It's all good and fun for DJs to start their open label but I think he's forgetting there's a job that comes with it. He shouldn't really be getting told by others then taking tracks down, should spot that crap before it even hits the shelves (in this case it's realistically easy). I think it's one of those things where you're pissed off that YOU messed up then you get all righteous and rant about it trying to vent.

can't believe that erphun released it without realizing the obvious similarities.

it's kinda his own fault, too.

just my 2 cents.
