Zabiela & Fancuilli are now One+One

There's something vaguely disturbing about a concept tour. Something just a little bit too corporate and wrong, it reeks of marketing men in slacks and designer open plan offices discussing how to appeal to 'the kids '. Especially when Ministry Of Sound get on board and decide to produce an album in conjunction with it.
It's lucky then that whoever decided to put this together managed to pick 2 of the most credible but popular DJs stroke producers around at the minute. Nic Fancuili's rise to the top via Club Class in Maidstone and a few well placed Ibiza / Miami / Radio One gigs has been pretty damn well near text book but he's managed to gain a legion of supporters along the way both in and out of the industry circles.

James Zabiela is also part of that 'young gun ' school appearing a couple of years ago to fill the Sasha-Digweed slot for the post-rave generation. From Bedroom Bedlam DJ to Space resident in only a few short years, Sasha's protégée has truly stepped out from behind his mentor to command his own high profile gigs and this tour does seem a logical next step for him.

So the concept is this, Nic Fancuilli and James Zabiela combine their technological enhanced live methods – Zabiela relys heavily on an FX unit and both will be using Q2 Dual DJ to cue separately along with various laptops and CDJ's - to play back to back in a succession of gigs across the UK, US, Europe, Asia and Australia (pretty much the world then). The tour kicks off with a launch party in Miami on the 23 march at The Fifth.

Ministry Of Sound have commissioned a mix album to go along with the tour 'One + One' which will also feature some tracks specially produced by the duo along with remixes and reedits used in the live show.

Rover, was apparently made in the back of Nic Fancuili's Landrover on the drive from London to Maidstone, which is one of the more resourceful things I've heard of people doing with their time on that journey. It's not the most complicated of records, but the benefit of producers who have honed their craft on the decks and dance floors is that whilst some of the intricacy of production that's currently in mode may not be present, what you do get is something that will work in a club.

This is complete DJ-friendly ammunition for a club assault. A deep progressive bass line and some smart synth action, with the requisite builds and breakdowns, mix-friendly starts and finishes, and some cute robotic samples, it's exactly the sort of thing you'd expect to hear in either of their DJ sets.

No Pressure, is more of a riotous affair, a driving riff, a distorted melodic flute mid section and some full-on warping, for more of a peak time mover. While being perfectly club friendly, the second track sounds at times a little dated, like something belonging to the Renaissance era of the early 90's, which is a shame. You can't help wondering if the whole thing is a bit forced for the sake of the concept…

As individual tracks I'm sure they'll be played out and dropped into sets constantly over the coming months and probably work perfectly fine, but whether these tracks would stand up on their own without the names attached to them is something else to think about...

I read a lot of Blah-Blah-Blah but if whatever they doing gets our little world more recognized and hopefully one day to commercial level with heavy hitting music market, it will only make me happy and with a feeling that we weren't taking all these drugs to party for nothing.

they both rock on their own and when they get together it's a match made in heaven. i loved their wmc promo last year and i can't wait to see them during conference!

the fact is, they make a really good team. both musically and personally. they are good friends and enjoy touring together and i think that ALONE makes a good show. i love it when you can sense the camaraderie of djs in the booth. it's sure to be a great vibe in addition to killer tunes. i'm all for it!

im exactly the opposite,,,i hate these back to back gay dj relationships...i hope zabs dont destroy fanciullis sound the way sasha destroyed zabs and digweeds....fanciulli is a hall of famer,,,first time i seen this guy he was a warm up dj at the radio one stage at Homelands and he fucking rocked and still does.....
