I don't live in Jersey City but I do go there for work. My advice is to live near one of the Path stations. Newport/Pavonia is the nicest and possibly most expensive area. The Grove Street station in in a true neighborhood with lots of ethic restaurants and people walking around. You may find a deal there and have an enjoyable neighborhood to be in. You can also try hoboken but that may be too expensive.

Best of luck!

thanks for your input... greatly appreciated. i have found couple place so far that im intrested in. both near(walking distance) the groove street path station. i'll be working in manhatten so that was the first thing i made sure of. i did check out newport like you had mentioned, but i dont know if im ready to fork out 1600 just to live in the highrises.... but it does come with a kick ass view of the city.

yea... NEWPORT or even newhere in the DOWNTOWN business district is good.... i go to school there so i would know. also, check out the HEIGHTS... its got a bad reputation but im always there at my friends' house and i think its a pretty good place to live.... some parts of it are madd ghetto though, but for the most part, its a good and cheap place to live..... if u have the chance to go to NEWPORT tho, def choose NEWPORT.... u cant beat that.

Yup, you are definitely paying manhattan rates in Newport. If you are still shopping around, I have a couple other places in NYC to recommend that you may find a decent rate - decent = 1,400 for 1 bedroom / 1,100 for studio.

1 - Alphabet City - Past Avenue C on the Lower East Side - you can still find a walk up deal out there

2 - Astoria, Queens - Not a bad neighborhood - up and coming old greek neighborhood.

3 - Carroll Gardens or Park Slope Brooklyn - Lots of people like this area

4 - Morningside Heights - up near Columbia Univ. - around 116st street - very nice area

5 - West Harlem - the section of harlem below 125th and west of St Nicholas Ave. One of the best kept secrets and you are close to Central Park.

one of the places that i found is a brownstone building in downtown J.C.. really close to the whole business district of J.C. the area is really nice, reminds me of the brownstone areas of west village. its downtown but the street is very quiet. it looks like thats what im going for... unless something else comes up that i like..

next sat. im gonna check out some more places in newport, hopefully i'll be able to find something there... if not, the brownstone will do. at this point, im just trying to stay away from the shady areas as much as possible.
