Premiership Games to be played abroad

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo...rem/7232390.stm

I'm very skeptical about this and a lot of people in the UK are pissed off.

I didn't agree with the NFL playing games in the UK. Why should we have to copy them? Another mass marketing ploy to sell more merchandise rather then the game. If anyone wants to argue the toss that this is not about money then why are they going to stage games in Dubai and not Delhi for an example? Let's hope Glazier, Hicks and Gillett don't get any ideas, it's not a fucking francise lads it's a sport and a damn fine one at that.

To any of you who try and get the game I wish you good luck. As in a stadium of 80,000 only half the tickets will actually go to the REAL fans, the rest will be corperate.

You just described most big grounds around britain at present.

I'm totally against the idea of farming out the national sport to the highest bidder, it may start at 1 game a season but money talks, and I can see it being extended to more than this. Once again the real fans will lose out.

+1

I think it would be better if they held an exhibition type tournaments over the summer every year. Say twenty teams from different leagues in Europe, battling out for a cup.

ESPN, Club Owners and the suits at the Premiership HQ are behind this. Guarentee a couple of envelopes containing wads of cash have exchanged hand.

Other thing what if your an Arsenal fan for example and your playing Spurs in Sydney? That's the biggest game of the season for both sets of fans it's quite out of order if stuff like that happens.

Exactly we can add Champions league games to that too. These bastards have ripped the heart out of the sport. Corperate hospitality, fans going to the game with no actual interest in the sport, families moved out of the enclosures and put in the main stands.

You've hit the nail on the head, it will probably end up being five games per club. It wouldn't even suprise me if Francises will start coming into if so RIP English football.

Notice how Dubai's got mentioned? Whats wrong with playing the game Dehli for an example.

Someone needs to assassinate Richard Scudamore and the twenty bosses of the clubs. If everyone fan in the UK gave me a fiver and someone supplied me some shooters I'd do it myself and walk out the hero.

They should just play the community shield overseas if they wanted to showcase English football

This is going a bit overboard

From one of the comments on the Guardian Unlimited

quote:
The more I think about this the funnier it is.

Can you imagine cities fererishly bidding to host Bolton vs Sunderland?

'Do I hear $100m, $50, $1m....
OK will someone at least offer to pick the teams up at the airport?'

Or even worse Leeds v Millwall. Animal fans.

I never forget when Millwall played Northampton Town. Sixfields (Northamptons grounds in a man made valley so you can watch the games sort of if you stand up on the hill opposite.

Being a teenager at the time and bored we headed down to the sixfields area to watch the game from the hill. There was a few people up on the hill including a number of bald blokes, being naive kids my mate Jamie starts laughing at the herd of millwall fans going crazy when Northampton score. Suddenely one the tattoed bald blokes turns and says in broad South London accent 'You find that funny you fucking little black c*nt' the rest of the pitballs assembling behind him what ensued was us cycling full pelt with a pack of animals in pursuit throwing beer bottles at us.

Quality. Thats what it was all about tho. Real fans, with real commitment and not a care in the world about crushing someones skull just cos they supported the opposition, FANTASTIC!!

I miss those days, even the old firms never end in violence anymore. My home town used to be brilliant when celtic and rangers played. Running battles up and down the street were the norm for a saturday or sunday afternoon kick off.

I don't know some people take it a bit too serious. Banters cool violence I'd say no too. I remember the 80's going to games when it got violent it wasn't brilliant. When there is a scene it's always an entertaining to watch so long as your not involved.

Know what you mean about the real fans bit, nowadays stand in the ground some nazi in an orange jacket and the cops tell you sit down. If you even swear you get evils off parents with their kids, it's like go back to the family enclosure if you don't want to hear people swear it's a football match for christ sake.
