hehe, they just say the actual sounds: "ae", "oe", and "ue".
By the way, the professor (she is German) isn't familiar with the spelling-reform, so she doesn't know where you _nowadays_ have to write "ss", and where the "ß" remains.
Our homework assignment for today was to write a short essay, and I wrote mine on a computer in Fraktur-schrift! (You know, with the long-s, and stuff.) I found a free Fraktur font on the Web, and used it in my essay. She was amazed!
