if you can afford them, go for the Rp8s. The big thing is they don't have to work so hard to reproduce signal trough them. This translated to a more open sound as they're not struggling to keep up.

Does that only make a difference if monitoring at loud levels? Or does it mean that even at normal listening levels the sound will be more open?

bigger cones usually mean they have a better and cleaner response on the lower frequency range. And in most cases they go can be put a bit louder too

i always thought that a bigger monitor is just aimed at a bigger studio space..

so a 6 inch will be fine for small bedroom use.. an 8inch will sound as bassy in a larger bedroom/studio. or be more bassy in the smaller room.

the difference in frequency range between the 6 and 8 will be hard to notice.

the right choice will determine if the sound is flat in the space you are working..

larger speakers get louder than smaller speakers when given the same amount of power.


to make the 8" sound like the 6", simply turn the volume down.

The 8" will have better low end response, but honestly, moniters are supposed to have flat response, so you really wont notice a diffrence.

There is no reason to get the 6" if you can afford the 8".




Dont doubt me, ive been designing speaker enclosures and audio systems professionally for years now.

I've gone with the 8's - just because I could and if I end up with a larger studio anytime they'll grow with me Haven't had a chance yet to try em out but I'm busting to get home and do so...
