Okey, sounds like a good procedure. I cut frequences below about 30-20 hz myself.

it depends vastly on the kick drum you've got. the only way to be sure what you are doing is to run every new kick drum you use through a spectrum analyser to see which frequency range it occupies and then EQ it based on that. some kicks are more bassy than others. some are more mid and treble. some of that bass end slap and sub bass tail
