one thing that I noticed though was that a lot of stuff was recreated instead of sampled.
I found this page http://jruaux.free.fr/samples.htm and it seems to me that most guys didn't sample straight from the 12" or did they? how did they remove the beats? thats not possible?

Itīs possible with EQ, filters or effects
just go to a club a listen when a DJ mixes two tracks ... same thing

sorry man, but removing hats, claps, kicks, and snares is not possible without being destructive to the actual sound your after...all those elements take up too much of the sonic range to be eq'ed out properly.

Layers
Just Listen to Phats and Small " This time Around" then go and listen to the track they sampled s.o.u.l. "this time around"

well thanks for the replys...sort of cleared up some stuff. i havn't sampled a whole lot so I'm just getting into it now.
