Totally different things, how can you compare a sampler to a drum synth?!
Both are good in their own way though i never use a sampler i just arrange audio samples, gives me much more flexibility in terms of grouping stuff together, offline processing etc..

actually both are samplers but stylus is loop/pattern oriented while batery is the thing for one shots.

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Yeah that's one thing I really haven't found a variety of yet in my research - high quality drum machines, whether they're samplers or another type. Any other suggestions beyond the ones listed above?

Actually, Stylus RMX has thousands upon thousands of 1 shots, or have you never used it properly?
I like Stylus and use it for all of my drums, but I think Battery 3 will also be a good buy. Try them both and see which one you like. I also like the ability of Stylus to re-arrange loops on the fly with it's Chaos Designer, makes for some great improv.
