Well, I've heard that Infected Mushroom scours MySpace every day looking for low-bitrate samples to steal. Of course, they're clever bastards, they warp it just enough so nobody except the original producer could ever recognize it, and of course they never leave a single trace of evidence. Those crafty jooooos!

To the thread starter: seriously - melodies aren't "awesome". There are all kinds of melodies that can sound really awesome, when put against the background of a really good production (or good backup if it's live), but if you think that a standalone melody is so awesome that everybody's going to want to steal it, well, you're due up for a few lessons in reality.
Don't waste people's time with unsubstantiated bragging. If you think you've got something great, then post a sample, and if you're worried about theft, then mangle or leave out a couple of chunks so it can't be stolen (or better yet, let them steal now and sue them later, you've got a better chance of making money that way). Most reasonably good artists don't particularly enjoy working with puffer-fish.
