Refurbished Macbook pro??? Any experience?

Hey everyone,
I'm going to buy a laptop soon and I wanted to get an apple since the prices of hp and dell are almost near the Mac book pros.
My Question is anyone tried the Refurbished macs? Well they claim on the website that they are very good and they come boxed in the original box with original accessories, but to tell you the truth im afraid and since im not going to be in the US all the time where I will get them because I will buy online I decided to ask for anyone with experience about refurbished macs.I mean I can get a a 17 inch Mac book pro for 1999$!!
Any help will be appreciated
thanks in advance

I am running a refurbished Mac Book Pro as I type this.

It's running perfectly. Granted, my wife decided to accidentally spill juice all over the keyboard, and I had to order a 100$ keyboard replacement. And clean out all the juice, which made everything sticky for a while.

But other than that horrendous experience. It's been working great.

Also, I just ordered a 250GB Western Digital laptop hard drive. I have the 120gb version of the 2.33Ghz, 2gb RAM macbook. And 120gb just is NOT enough. Especially when you have a Windows XP partition like I do.

So yea. Can't wait to throw in the 250 gb drive

Here's my theory:

This computer was broken once already. Why take the chance when you can save up a few more bones and get a new one.

It's a good theory. Unless you're cheap like me. The refurbished lable just doesn't scare me.

My computer is working perfectly.

Heya,

Well, I don't know if this is gonna help you, as my sole experience with refurb hardware was with pci cards from digidesign. 2 mix farm tdm cards.

AFAIK, those cards were as new, so are refurbished macs, as most of those units were completely repaired as if they were built for the first time, or either got unsealed in Retail Stores and displayed but never got used. Most Refurb items are in that state. But of course you have exceptions!

So, if I were you, I'd spare one more year after getting a refurb mbp, and get myself an applecare.

You lucky peepz, refurb hardware from apple isn't available in my country (dispatched to france where they have EVERYTHING into refurb store).
