Camel Audio Alchemy

Anybody here using this synth yet? A friend of mine (TA member Digital Aura) got it recently and has been raving about it. It specializes in additive, granular, and spectral synthesis - sounds like a nice addition to anyone's synth arsenal, but I'm wondering how good it is for EDM and/or chillout. If you've got it, please give us a review!

What is "spectral synthesis?" I'm not familiar with that.

Good question! From their description, it sounds like it's a re-synthesis approach similar to Gladiator's HCM (Harmonic Content Morphing)???

quote:

Spectral Synthesizer

* phase vocoder analysis for high quality pitch and time stretching
* noise resynthesis mode using 256 band noise shaping
* advanced graphical sonogram editing - choose from a range of brushes and select the colour and opacity
* graphical spectral cut, copy and paste - cut or copy and paste specific frequency and time regions

okey, here we go.

Alchemy is the new synth that literally replaces CA5000. It features everything from the latter.

Secondly, it features a lot of modulators, almost as many as Omnisphere does. Sequencers, envelopes, LFO, etc...

Thirdly, it imports samples and resynthesizes them, slices, whatever.

Then, the Camelspace fx section has been implemented into Alchemy.

All in all, imagine Massive combined with CA5000 with a slightly different interface, with all the wavetable osc's, plus the ability to import your own samples and Soundfonts.

I've got it, and although I wouldn't use it everyday, it's really the icing on the cake. Really cool workstation that does the job.

Thanks Lolo! Good info. I didn't realize that it had all of C5000's capabilities - that's good news.

Questions: it looks Alchemy is download only, but comes with a huge library (2GB+) - how long did it take to download it? Any issues with their server?

Any thoughts on PC spec for running this effectively?? I'm running synths such as sylenth, atmosphere, vanguard, V-Station etc with no issues generally, but if I start doing lots of processing of the sound after its generation (sidechaining or mashing using something like dBlue glitch) I start to get coughs and splutters!

Considering upgrading RAM to be able to run Omnisphere, would this synth need equivalent power or more?

I bought it last night. FYI - www.audiomidi.com has it on sale for $235 USD until Feb 10th, I believe. That price includes one free expansion ($60 value).

One small word of warning, though, they don't tell you that have to wait about 24 hours for them to process the order through Camel Audio until after you purchase it. Not a big deal IMO, but just don't expect to be downloading it and using it right away if you take advantage of this sale. Also, California residents do get charged state taxes, which brings the price back up to about the same as buying it directly through Camel Audio, but at least you still get the free expansion by buying it from audiomidi.
