Headphones

Broad title, huh? Well, here goes:

I currently own a pair of Sony MDR-7506's and I think they are great, I use them for just everyday listening and for producing music. But, I've been looking up other headphones and am thinking of possibly purchasing another pair.

So what would be recommended? I like the looks of the Technics RP-DH1200's but I also thought of looking into some AKG's or Sennheiser since I've heard they're pretty good. But please remember, I'm not replacing the 7506's, I just want a second set of headphones.

EDIT:

I'm actually serious looking at the technics since after some research I found they have a freq range of 5hz-30khz compared to the 7506's 10hz-20khz. Only downside is the technics are a lot heavier and use a lot of power.

Yeh, see you should realise that those figures are stupid because you can't actually hear above 18-19. And theres no way a pair of headphones are going to reproduce 5 hz at any perceptible level.

In answer to your question: AKG 240s. And search next time

AKG's are very good. When buying headphones you want consider on getting closed or open type. Try to get something thats very neutral on the sound field, no emphasis on bass or highs. Also, reproduction of a full sound would be good.

These are closed headphones; shit for producing, good for DJing.

You want open/semi open headphones for producing. The most popular ones are those in the AKG 240 X range.

Technics are DJing headphones, not producing headphones. Likewise, as already mentioned, at best humans can only hear up to 20hz. Thus, going up to 30hz makes no difference.

Then you aren't going to get the quality you are looking for, plain and simple.

I got buggered for saying this a few headphone posts ago, told I am not a professional so I don't know what to listen out for.

Simply put I'd avoid the 7506's at all costs. Worst headphone I ever bought. Nothing translates, bass is rediculously unreal, highs are harsh.

They are shit. I have the Sony MDR300's, I've had the 500's too and I currently use the Sennheiser HD580, as well as having used many, many sennys before, all of them sounded better, and translated better than anything on the 7506s.

I honestly tried to love them, but after a year of getting pissed off with just how shit they sound, I fucked them off. If you want a pair pm me, the cable is fucked but if you cover postage I'll let you have them for a cheese biscuit.

You really think?!!!

Honestly everything I listen to on them sounds bad, they do not have a pleasing sound at all.

Fair shout you all say, it's cause they are flat. Great for production. Wrong. They just sound dog shit.

Why tbh I thought Sony would sound good is anyones guess, I went mostly off rave recommendations and BT suggesting them in ESCM booklet.

Never been so dissapointed in my life.
