If you own a TC Powercore card you're probably aware that freezing a track with a powercore plugin on it in most DAWs won't actually remove DSP usage from the card itself.

FX Freeze is a plugin/wrapper that has an "Ultra Freeze" mode where the plugin acts as if it's been removed from the chain, thus allowing you to use more instances of the plugin while keeping all the patch/automation data and get better DSP usage out of your card.
