1) Are you just looking for a cheap MIDI keyboard with no other flashy features like pressure pads, faders, knobs, and custom mapping controls? If the answer is yes, then just go with the Axiom. You aren't looking for any extra features, and the keys on the regular Axiom will be more than suitable.
2) If you want a little hands on control of plug-ins and your DAW (a little, not full control), then the Axiom Pro will be what you want. Although you could technically use the Pro as a full-on control surface, it is best used for hands on control of a little of everything.
Personally, I use it to record plug-in automation since it's super easy to get control of the parameter you want to control and you don't need to map anything to any plug-ins. The Axiom Pro does it all for you automatically! You also get transport control, save, zoom, and cycle controls via the numerical keys and ASCII commands, also mapped automatically.
There's my $0.25 |
