Beatport's filenames, wtf?

SO

I made my first ever purchases on Beatport today. I was super-excited that everything had gone so well, paying with PayPal and stuff.

I got to the point where I can start downloading the tracks I humbly paid for.

However, downloading the tracks, I noticed the filenames are something similar to what follows here: 48691467943123_-_track_name_original_mix.mp3

And even the ID3-tags were fucked

Artist: Real artist name
Track title: Real track title - Original Mix ('original mix' is supposed to be in brackets imo)

The site even announced it would be better if I made some changes to my Internet Explorer, so I can download the tracks proper? Who designs a web page with not having IE in mind?

And I'm not starting an F2-operation to rename my tracks.

I'm just absolutely so fucking disappointed something as stupid as this can exist at all. If your database consists of gabazazillions of mp3's, I think you should be somewhat dedicated to have the filenames say what they actually are.

I have nothing else in my mind.

This is also my third day on only Nicotinell, which is the first time since age 13. If Beatport ruins this.. (to be exact this was one of my many attempts to quit smoking)

jk it's my first day but still.

Sorry to ruin your day. That's always been the format of Beatport downloads. You can only change it by renaming the files after downloading.

It's quite easy to change a download script so it will present the files with a handy filename, but I guess they choose not to.

It's not completely ruined yet, I'm gonna try mp3tag on them when I get home. The problem is I --- never mind. But still.

The id3 thing was just too much to handle. I could've renamed the filenames.

Behold, my arse.

I may not be the most rational guy on the whole world wide web but c'mon what is this bullshit? Even I could design an uploader that fucking names the tracks correctly, squeezes the hell out of it and remasters it.

first time this much disappoint tecnhology

No you're absolutely right. Editing mp3 tags with scripts is simple as well. It should be rather straightforward but they chose to make it hard. Unforunately.

The Beatport Downloader App they provide allows you to modify how the tracks are named, I believe.

Well that's like making people sick first and then just providing the cure.

First of all I hate the fact that physical albums have sort of disappeared completely. And then when I finally get used to the fact I have to just download the music I like, it's not done properly. There's not really any other good way of getting music anymore. And I get attached to music I own. Albums are a thing that attract me as for their content and the physical form I used to be able to buy them and own them in and not just having them on an external hard drive or some other shit. At least for me getting physical records is difficult, since doing so in the backwoods of Finland can really be a bitch. But that's my problem, I'm an heroes from the countryside.

yes +1, this is what i do. i don't buy 1 track at a time i usually buy 20+ so having them all correctly named in the format i want(you have a bunch of options) to all the same folder with like 2 clicks is the way it should be.

As much as I respect you as a human being, I clearly stated that buying records in this part of the world (not too far away from you, where exports are not as nearly as rare as here) buying records is not too easy. Especially considering the place I live in now, there is no possibility to walk in a store and buy a record that I could listen to and enjoy it.

And don't get me wrong, I've got a good ol' pile o' cd's (I think even mentioning cd's will make me stand out in this crowd like a dick) but buying them today must concentrate on bigger labels that have the money to even press cd's or vinyl. That's my main point when considering buying downloadable songs from Beatport. Fucl.kf.

And yeah, I discovered the magical world of the Beatport Downloader. It didn't help much as it seems like it has been designed by a 15 year old Flash advertisement engineer. It did one trick though of which I was happy about.

Another thing is; my friend bought tracks from Beatport and downloaded them twice. And couldn't download them anymore. I don't know what caused this, but if it's a fact they're only downloadable for you for a limited period of time, it's not convenient. And convenient is a keyword when buying and downloading mp3's from the internet instead of going to the store to buy cd or vinyl.

I honestly thought this forum would've been the place for people who have at least some kind of antipathy against music turning to only mp3. It is the future and all, but.. I prefer it physical.

It may sound odd a 21 year old craving back cd's, but even the latest community I was a part of before this one, we had threads to show off our collections. Posting a picture of a folder in Vista ain't that sweet.

i'm over it, never cared about the medium, never cared how it felt, or looked or whatever. i buy songs to listen to, i make songs to listen to, i play songs to be listened to. that's it.

lastly how did the beatport downloader not "help much", it does everything you originally asked for?

I am a full on luddite when it comes to this shit and much I love vinyl and hate mp3 as a medium, .wav's are a fine compromise.

Just download them and burn them to cd and make nice little labels to your hearts content. Shit, download the artwork (or your own if you must).

Don't blame beatport - their service is frankly outstanding and none of the other online providers have systems as good as theirs.

Do you have the beatport downloader properly installed? I can download the tracks as many times as I need from that.
