Arrow Bass Pad Help

Hey guys, I'm wondering if someone could help me with what I think is a tricky piece of sound design!

I'm after the "basspad" sound from tracks like this:

(Have a listen from about 2mins 40sec)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfGTfGjyDek

This is the closest I have ever got to that sound:

The problem with my sound is that it's too gritty- the sound takes up a lot of room in the mix. I have tried playing with the cutoff filters but, at the end of the day, it's not the same sound.

My attempt was made in Vanguard, but, ideally, I would like some help creating the Santiago sound in Sylenth as there is a lot more control over the final sound.

I will love anyone who can help me get that "coldharbour" bass sound.

Thanks

Use 2 x sawtooth waveform, detune them slightly to taste, drop a cut off really low and push up the resonance quite high, again adjust both the taste. You'll then need heavy EQ on the low end and the mid. Side chain with a fucking thuddy kick. Sorted.

Also there is a widener on that thing too.

What gear you using?

Thanks for the reply

I'm using Ableton. I have a variety of VSTs but was hoping to make the sound in Sylenth as I like how much control I have.

I will give this a go now. I will post a clip if I get something decent!

PS. Are you able to recommend a good, free, stereo widener?

Just remember it's very unlikely you'll get 100% the same sound, there is a lot at play there and tbh it's impossible to pick out everything they have done to THAT sound. Fuck it could even be a cheeky sample they have used and just EQ'd a bit.

The big things for that (any people here feel free to correct me if I am wrong) is stereo widening, detune the saws and big cut off and resonance. It may also be layered with another pad that gives some added texture and a bit of presence, because you can't usually get everything out of one sound. You need to layer shit.

I've literally thrown this together in 2 mins, so don't judge it too harsh. But Is this the kinda sound you're after?

Nah I get that, recreating sounds is difficult so I'm not after something that's exactly like that. I just need something similar so that I can keep tweaking until I get the perfect sound I want.

The sample you provided sounds good, so something along those lines is what I'm after. I have tried what you said and I'm getting a nice sound, it just needs to be a little wider I think

I'm almost there, I think eventually I'll crack it with a sound I'm totally happy with.

If you can't find a widener, just pan one of the saws left and one of the right. Sorted.

Post results.

broseph, my 2cents.

bussing layers, it sounds like the signal was taken and split into a distortion unit, lightly mixed. my suggestion is to experiment with signal pathing your single sound into effects such as chorus, reverb with no decay, and mixing all of that so it balances out. combined you could get something you might want.

i only took a listen to language.
