where to learn?

hey all, just a quick question:

im relatively new to the scene of music production and composing, i have recently purchased reason and must say i love it. the beat ive created in a recent tune is great. but anyway to the point; what i dont know how to do is create a bass line, or a melody....hell, i dont even know where to begin! so i was wondering where you guys actually learned all this stuff, is there a specific thread, believe me ive tried searching but have found nothing, is there a specific software that i should buy (i am willing to do so cause i really wanna give this a try) is there anything that can guide me!?

anyway hope you can help. thanks

Read This! Read....

Music theory always helps, so does knowing how synths work, look for tutorials on each! Its best to have less gear and know it inside-out, rather than having heaps of stuff and only knowning the tip of the ice-berg!

www.reasonstation.net

That site helped me LOADS, dled other peoples tunes and learn tricks and tips

Any more questions, dont be afraid to drop me a line on shepless@hotmail.com

> I pretty much taught myself, I've never read a guide or anything - but saying that I started with Fruity and moved onto Reason. I'd say it's mainly due to A) Analysing presets / demo songs and B) Expermentation. This is over like a 1 year period for me, but if you put in alot of effort you can get to grips to things quickly.

No problem man! I needed the same push! ONce you get going in the right direction, things will fall into place pretty easily. Listen to S2k too, he is also right, teach yourself, learn stuff for yourself and experiment

Yeah here's another site www.musictheory.net if that can help you, its all about learning music theory but it has a really good chord calculator too which is also available for download, check it out it may help. But do as i did, learn by self teaching, experiment prduce something unordinary, out of the blue ure own stuff be original, once you got the knack of it you should be away,

Happy producing!
