extra

reason being I've got a few questions relating to the issue:

1) when you get vocalist in, do they have to sing in a certain key or something 4 it to fit over the track?

2) any ideas for good effects to use over the vocal other than reverb & delay, when using Cu-base VST to get that lush haunting sound James Holden & Gabiel & Dresden get on there vocals? gorgeous!!

any help or construce comments would be very helpful.

Marcus

these tracks are done in professional studios with singing booth and with a homestudio you wont get anywhere near the quality of g&d. My mixing console has got a very nice efx to fatten up vocals (voice doubler). Don't know if there is such an effect in cubase. Recording with a long reverb tail and then reversing the tail is also a very common technique

Adding vocals must be a real pain in the *ss, hence I've never even given it a serious thought myself. You need a pro-singer, a pro-mic and a pro-environment to get just the recording part done...but hey, tell me something that's actually easy to do in producing...

you don't need to stress so much...we actually don't do anything super special to vocals other than some reberb, compression and delay run through different buses in the output of the logic mixer.

it's all a matter of eq-ing the vocal to sound really good within the track you are working on. if recording vocals it's best to find a quality mic in a dampened room and make sure you're going through a tube compressor.

Example (remixing): I got some vocals from original artist. Then starts cutting and syncing with beat , most hardest job helps only good ear and sense of rhythm After that you add EQ, reverb, delay, compression and your vocal part is almost ready hehe ... then you need basses, strings, leads and if you vocal sounds too weak then , add more EQ and (or) compress/limiter. Experiment, experiment!
