line input in cubase + effects.

I hooked my synth to my comp's LINE IN input and now when I play it I can see the volume bars in cubase's mixer. however: when I try to add effects (flange for example) nothing happens to the output. is there a way that I could add effects to the input realtime in cubase? or the only way for me is to record the raw audio into cubase and add effects to the audiochannel?

I hope I made sense

Devices --> Device Setup --> VST multitrack = deselect "direct monitoring".

See if that helps.

It's in the manual, in chapter 2 I think. You need to find the right mode of monitoring, which depends on whether or not you are using a mixer.

If you aren't using a mixer, and just have the synth plugged straight into the line in, then try turning on the monitor button and then adding effects on it.

Also, in preferences, there are different options for direct monitoring, but read through chapter 2 of the manual, it should answer your question properly. I can't be bothered reading it for you.

well I got it now:

I had to assign the line input to a audiochannel (Audio 1 for example). Now everytime I played something on my synth I heard the sound 2 times (just like someone had applied a little delay on the channel).

After some headache I found out that the delay was due to my soundcard's latency. The first sound I heard was directly from my line input and the second one ~20ms later was from 'Audio 1' with added effects (flange).

Now I muted the line in channel in my soundcards mixer and voila: I heard only the sound from 'Audio 1' with added effects.

The only downside was that there was a ~20ms delay between pressing the keyboard and the actual sound. I fixed this by lowering the sample/buffer rate in my asio control panel to 512. Now I have ~10ms lag and I can live with that
