sad story
my most powerfull synth in my setup. You could love or hate the q but it's power is huge.
Is this going the the same way as the music industry?
Sales going down because of the popularity of warez?

I guess a insolvency of a company like waldorf is the result of a bad management, but not of the warez. As far as I know Walddorf has much more hardware products than software...

I don't think it's warez that makes hardware sales go down, but software in general.

Most people will agree that 80% of software synths/effects still don't sound as good as the real hardware. But even then, for a fraction of the price you can get software that can be called upon in multiple instances, and that do pretty well what the hardware counterpart can do. Just look at samplers... Except the tactile control of a hardware unit, there isn't really any advantage to get a hardware sampler anymore (that's why most of the manufacturers like Akai and Emu are making the change to software or hybrid systems). Eventually, with the increase of power of the computers, I see the same happening with synths and effects. So the manufacturers that are good in making hardware are going to have problems in the future, unless they radically change their way of thinking (like Novation and Korg did for example).

Well, if you use large multisamples on computer you'll cpu will run out of resources pretty soon I guess. (at least when u also sequence, run softsynths, ...) I still put most of my drum samplers in my hw sampler to save resources.

There is still hope for Waldorf yet! There is still possibility for someone to take over the company....I've been a member of the Waldorf user forum for many years and own an XT and a Q, which are amazing syhths. There is possibility for some of the waldorf crew to be working on some OS updates mainly for teh Xt in this case...but this is not written in stone...the insovency manager must take care of business first and then we will see what happens. I spoke with Stefan Stenzel on the forum as did we all and he let us know that he would like to keep the product alive...there is also a good article of what is happening here http://www.macmusic.org/news/view.php/lang/EN/id/1595/

Stefan has also started his own company with Frank Schneider called
stadler-electro.de....it's not up and running yet but it does give us hope for later waldorf support if possible.

If anyone would be the likely buyer for Waldorf, I'd say it'd be Access music. It would be interesting to see a Waldorf Analog cross-bred with Virus KC. Either way, never cared much for waldorf but shame hardware synths are slowly going the way of dodos.

Thats not very likely but would be a good thing if it did...the only thing I can think of that linked Access and Waldorf was the Access programer for the Waldorf Microwave 1. Access seem to stick to one product and do it well. Maybe a company like Wine Country(I don't mean them but someone like them) will take it over...like they did with the sequential circuits synths. I just hope for future OS updates that were promised.
