I'm working on creating a library of loops. Not for my own use; I can tell you why after June 1.
It's annoying as fuck to do. Why? Because I keep coming up with little things that I'm going "Ooooh, I could really use that...."
Except, of course, I can't.
Argh.
That aside, anyone have any tips on loop creation? The way I'm doing it right now is just building up what are essentially mini-tracks, and then separating them out into their component loops. Everything's being done in the same key, so (theoretically) any loop can go with any other loop.

Anything with the X0X style pads will help inspire creativity for making loops. Can be fun to just sit there and make loops. I use to do it heaps to build my own percussion loop library.

Most grooveboxes have them
It's some kind of grid you place the notes on, very handy for rhythm.
mc 505, rm1x, korg er1, they all feature this kind of recording. You wont find them on sw sequencer tho. (I think , don't know that much about sw)
I use floops mostly, which does have that sort of setup

Fruity Loops is based around this kind of sequencing i think. Redrum also uses it. No VST boxes out there that use it to my knowledge though. If there are any, please let me know.
