the .dll files in this case are plugins for a VST/DX host. You need one of these hosts to run the program. Examples would include Logic, Cubase, Fruity Loops 3.5+, Sonar, etc.
There are many vocoders out there. Many recommend the Orange vocoder although it don't like it much. There is one by native instruments called Vocator which is poplular. Personally, for the robotic voices, I still think vocoder by Stienberg is the best. These are all VST plugins though (.dll files). You can download demos of the programs listed above though (cubase, logic, etc) for free from their web pages.

Does Steinberg Vocoder work alone, or do you need to download other Steinberg software for it?
Ive downloaded the Orange Vocoder and I couldnt figure it out how to make it work. Seemed like you had to download 50 other files or programs just to make it work. Sucked, so I gave up.

Like I said, you need a VST host to run the programs. The vocoders are plugins. They run within another program. Without these VST host programs, you cannot run the vocoder.
Fruity Loops 3.5 and Fruity Loops Studio, Stienberg Cubase, Emagic Logic, these are all VST host programs, one of which (or another VST host) you will need to run the plugin.
There are probably stand-a-lone software vocoders out there but I don't know any |
Ok, well this will help, so I do thank you, muchly....

Did you downloaded the demo or an illegal version? I bought Orange Vocoder and it worked fine. Don't download warez versions; you're better off buying the legal versions...they always work. Anyway, vocoders are a little tricky...search online for the principle of the vocoder...you'll be surprised at all the info you'll learn about it that you didn't know.

Re: Whats the best Vocoder software to use?

Anyhow I was given from the other comrades in the music forum that
K-V-R is a site to download some vocoder files, but they are all .dll files, so I suppose my next question is, HOW DO I USE DLL files?
I remember in the past I downloaded this awesome vocoder software that had everything setup. I pretty much installed it, and a panel came up, i moved around the effects grid to the appropriate voice I wanted and WALLA. It turned my voice into a bazaare robotic tone, but I cant remember what software that was. It was VERY easy and simple to use. Not all the worries about downloading just files and .dll files that you needed another software for.
So if anyone knows a simple vocoder software I can use that changes up the tone of your voice into a cool tunnel or robotic voice, let me know. Thanks |
The link I gave you was to a search on KVR on vocoders. KVR themselves do not host the files. There's a reason it's called kvr-vst: it's centered on vst plugins.
There are free vst hosts out there, just do a search on kvr.
