so if i were too...

Here goes...I have been long into trying to produce but end up primarily mixing music or covering other tunes or a little of both...what i am looking forward to is creating my own tunes...but i only have fruity loops 4 and reason...i feel very limited as fruity loops sounds midi-ish at times and reason is just so damn complicated but pretty good...i obviously dunno a whole lot, hoping someone could point me in the right direction as far as good PC programs for creating music...i know i need various programs also...please help meh...

FL Studio is a great program.. it's very easy to use.. get some decent VST plugins(Pro-53, Atmosphere, V-Station, etc..) too.
Reason is great too... but it doesnt support vst plugins though..
just take time to learn your tools and you'll be fine. PRACTICE!
hope this helps... and also u should read this THREAD

1) Read the damn stickies
2) Have you stopped to consider that it isn't Fruity that sucks, maybe it's just the fact that you haven't taken the time to learn how to use it?

Is it normal always spam the forum with RTFM or STICKIES reminder or just give a good advice? Sorry to tell you but that VSTi STICKY sucks big time -> because nobody dont update it anymore.
I prefer http://www.kvr-vst.com/ -> everything about VST technology.

Back to original topic:

If you making new steps then I reccoment to use REASON because its closed system and all what you see is all what you get! www.reasonstation.com is good site to download the user songs and learn, learn, learn. It's sounds like stealing but it's only way to learn how program works. if you choose Fruity you can download user songs too but when you don't have exactly the same VSTi or EFFECT then you can't hear full soundsceme. My idea.

On the contrary, I recommend FL Studio because it is an open system. There are only so many sounds you can get out of Reason without Re-Wiring to a VST compatible host (which can be a major pain!) or using samples. Since Fruity is VST/DXI compatible, you have endless possibilities when it comes to synths/effects.

Also, almost all tutorial .flp files that I've come across use the effects and synths that come standard with FL, not random VST plugins, so this really isn't a problem.

To the original poster: If FL sounds to "midi-ish" to you, I'm guessing you are using the default FL samples and instruments. They pretty much suck. Like a couple of other people have said, read the stickies. Download some good samples. Get the demos or purchase some good VSTi's. With good samples, VSTi's, and production skills FL can sound just as professional as most other software studios.

Good Luck

Disclaimer: Most of this is just my personal opinion.

So what you're saying is that I didn't help him. Pointing him in the direction of the stickies isn't considered help?

first of all, you need to calm down...its just a forum and its meant to work for everyone...those that know everything and those that don't...it probably wasn't too long ago that you were on the other side of the noob fukn fence so calm down trance...and i never said fruity sucks, i just said it sounded cheesy...and yes i already have researched plug ins but that didn't change the original sound all that much...i also would manipulate the wave files and elongate, truncate, etc but still sounded cheesy...DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW WHAT IM SAYING??? I mix all the time and i just started getting the urge to remix and re-edit tracks...so just calm down and if you need to insult and be rude towards people and their intentions, let alone skill, then next time DON'T REPLY please...thats the problem with forums sometimes, people think they are the shiet for giving good advice or being a smart ass...how i hate the latter fools...

Thanks to madjoben, a.m., and sebraa...thanks for the no-need-for-negative advice attitude...

Your turn to calm down, kiddo.

There is no way that if you've been trying different plugins, and using them properly, that the sounds you're producing would come out sounding almost the same. Elongating and truncating wave files doesn't change anything about how they sound; doing those things will only change the length of the sample.
