How do you guys gather your ideas?

How do you guys gather your ideas?

How do you organize your song? i.e. do you make the baseline first, the melody?

Where do you find inspiration?

i actually sit and draw it out all on paper... although it usually changes i get the main themes structured way easier this way and i don't feel overwhelmed when i start on something new

Artists usually like to look at other people's works, for reference when drawing. I read in a book , that you should get 12 of your favorite records and combine them. What do you think about that method?

I always play around on a keyboard first for a melody and when im satisfied I add the rest. Like someone said, it's all about trial an error ...

I play around with various ideas; sometimes percussion and groove based, other times revolving solely around the bassline, and of course other times on melodies. If I come up with something that seems like a winner I will iterate on that idea over the course of several hours/days/weeks, and when I'm happy with that one key element I'll build the rest of the sound around it. I'll iterate quite extensively on each additional element added as well of course, until it gets to a level I'm happy with, at which point I'll give it to a few people to listen to and make adjustments based on their criticism.

I've actually stopped listening to most EDM since I have begun producing, would prefer my sounds untainted and original.

bassline, accompanying lead, kick + snare + hi hats and cymbal sounds.. in no particular order, whichever one i start with ..

To start a tune im usually inspired by something. Maybe a drum sound, a lead sound I have played around with, or a tune I have heard with a certain progression or something. I will then improvise on that idea and incorporate all the other factors, probably from other inspiration too. Its all about experimentaion

Good luck

i just start grabbin stuff that i think sounds good. ie drum ensembles, one shots, basslines. i don't start with anything in particular i just make a big pile of crap and just start weeding through it. after iv'e got a foundation i'm usually missing one or two elements like a synth or something. the next parts easy cuz youv'e got the majority of the track allready layin there kinda frankensteined together.
