Benassi style sound

I might get a little flamed for this (because of the unpopularity of his sound in some circles), but does anyone know how to replicate Benassi's signature sound/effect? It's also been used by the Royal Gigolos, Vanguard...a bunch of other people. I've been trying to find his "secret" for a while now and to no avail. Anyone?

Yeah, layer a few saw osc's, have them play a long note and compress this together with the kick drum, it'll give that 'wet' sound if that's what you're looking for...

if you have vanguard use saws on the 2 oscs and a square on the 3rd and play arround with the filter.

My good friend James "wandii" Wood made a replica of the Benassi bass sound. It's the best replica I've heard yet.
I'll ask him if he can share.

It's not just a simple saw wave that makes this sound. It's also reverb.. reverb, compression and side-chain compression is the key here. the saw must power through the reverb, but after the not is off the reverb ramps up (compression and eq)

then you use side-chain compression to duck the output from the comrpessor and eq.. Link the compressor to a muted kick. The muted kick should finish 1/2 between a beat. Then use what ever kick you like for the actual mix.. I've found that using the same kick for the side-chain comp and the mix can create some cliping at the start of the kick.

anyways.. just my 2 cents

oh.. btw, it's done with a 303

I've accomplished an elementh of this effect by using the chopper (one of the vst-effects in Cubase)

How do ya like my try

http://www.whiteroachproductions.nl/benass.mp3

Single saw (in this instance on the nord rack 2, but really about 60% of synths' saw sound will do). Sidechained by the kick. Mostly a matter of getting the amount of sidechain, and the amount of portamento on the saw right.

Pjotr ::: That is coming close!!
Corteoz ::: Your friend delayed his reverb, and he didnt use a beat (thats what makes the benassi sound so 'special' *cough*, the interaction with the beat)

Add your own beat you lazy git. It was only a quick 10-minute jobby anyway. I'm too lazy to work on it.

Fiddle around and make it better for me, Mister Da'Man.
