I wanna make my mp3's copyrighted. I add the proper ID3 tags but the MPEG info still says Copyright: No


How do I change that field and what does that actually do?

You set that in your MP3 encoder while you're saving the MP3. Mine has checkboxes for: set original bit, set copyright bit, set private bit.

that still doesn't technically 'copyright' your mp3's though does it.

no, actually they are copyrighted anyway. "Copyrighted: no" doesn't exist unless it is absolutely royalty free without any limitations.

yup...yer right...it has to be done during the "encode" process and not after.

Why would you want to copyright an mp3 file ????
If it reaches the ears then anyone that plays it can record it, re-encode or stream it to the world

If you don't want people to hear it then zip it up with 256bit encryption and give your lawyer the password.

Isn't copyrighying just eating the bits that otherwise would be used for sound? Not that I would hear a difference between 128kbps non- and 128kbps copyrighted (wich is a few bits lower).

Why would I want to copyright it? NO reason...just because I saw that it said Copyright = NO. And I don't like not knowing how to change it.
Thats all. I know it doesnt mean squat ...I just wanted to be able to tweak that in the header.

i always copyright my songs like this before i send to ppl. this way, i have made the receiver aware of the fact that this is a copyrighted song, and if he/she decides to share it, sell it or whatever, he or she is violating my copyright and i get the right to sue their ass.
