Vocal question

I've been dying to work with vocals ... only problem is that I don't sing, and I don't know anyone who does ... so what do I do?! I've thought about samples and whatnot, but it's just never right. I want to create a few songs with vocals, but i'm just stuck ... any thoughts?

Cheers,

- Armas -

Place an add looking for a lovely talented female vocalist who is interested in doing vocal work for trance music production. Well she doesn't have to look hot but it doesn't hurt does it?! Haha. Then audition them. Don't choose your song! but some other already well known and established trance tune.ok. and make it short. I doesn't take long to realize talent.

Make it clear to your chosen vocalist that she is NOT under a contract and her work is strictly voluntary. If she thinks you are a good producer and she is looking to get noticed it is a good oportunity for her as an unknown vocalist. Again, make it clear to your chosen vocalist that the first song is all voluntary and maybe have her sign an agreement. If the song does well, she may want to work with you again and at that point you can work out a partnership type contract concerning any proceeds generated from future songs together. Even being only amateur, the more professional you look the better and the more auditions you will get.

Just my thoughts.

Oh, i guess I thought you already had a home studio and a vocal space. Well the audition doesn't take anything special other than speakers and can be done at your home. You could buy some time in a vocal booth at a studio and maybe rent any kind of mic you need that they don't have available. If the vocalist has the parts well practiced it shouldn't take too long and wouldn't cost too much. Give her an mp3 of the track to practice too in advance.

Go to your freindly guitar or audio shop and look for a decent mic. If not theres plenty of sites that sell mics, even check ebay

Just dont try recording with the mic that came with the computer. My freind tried it, made a remix of a barney song, and he thought it was pimp. The vocals where all distorted and it sounded like poo

If a newspaper add doesn't give you any results, check with the talent agencies and recording studios in your area, surely they know a few vocalists. If that doesn't get you anywhere, there are plenty of vocalists within the internet community that are willing to collaborate with you online. The majority will want to charge you a fee for their time of course, but you would get a wide selection of Pro and semi-pro vocalists. There are websites that offer the service of bringing vocalists and producers together, for a fee, and for free. They might even find you a vocalist in your area. Do some internet searches, I'm sure you'll find what you need.
