Im not quite sure how to describe exactly what this is, but I want to know how to make it. Basically, it's a big bass drop with a delayed crash or something on top and a reversed cymbal before... but the low end is what Im having a hard time getting to sound right...
I know this is probably pretty basic, but any help is appreciated!
BONUS: Part of what is really interesting in this sample is that when it hits, everything else seems to briefly duck out a little. My guess is just volume automation, what is yours?
How about a similar effect thats a bit more organic (sounds more to me like a reverbed kick). I've been trying to do something like this, but I cant seem to get rid of the initial sound of the kick, and I haven't been able to get the sound nice and low (for that nice rumbling feeling)
BONUS: This one seems to trail off for quite a while, which is cool, but how do you get it to still keep its quality and stick out in the mix so much? Am I just using a sucky reverb?
ps. I tried to search, but couldn't find anything... a link to a thread explaining this stuff would be nice if it exists
The first one is a sine wave with a decending pitch modulation (LFO).
Try experimenting with a synth, it shouldn't be very hard to do. The ducking is probably just a side effect from the limiter/compressor on the master.
Second one is just reverb on a kick. The quality of the reverb is important and the reverb itself needs to be EQed.

I use these Myself. Hmmmm, I'll use this as an example because it was the quickest example that came to mind....
Mike Koglin vs Jono Grant - Circuits
He uses it in this track, like a sub curve ranging from mid to low frequencies, usually very compressed and powerful sounding.

If u want to do it the lazy way and is willing to spend some money. Then u could buy a sample cd from Vengeance called "Fx vol. 1". It contains a folder called Hits & Explode which is what ur looking for.

or You could do that! - Actually I think using professionally made samples is probably much more accurate if You are stuck on various sounds / effects and percussion.
Vengeance make great samples!

The first one sounds like a sub kick with a long decay and reverb and a delay.

Wow, thanks for all the replies... so, it seems like Im on the right track... I'm just not awesome enough to get them to sound good, ha.
I really wanted to avoid using a sample of such a sound... it's much more interesting for me to make these sorts of things from scratch.
I'll have to give the sine wave a try... it seems like the pitch mudulation keeps it from sounding cheesy (just a simple tone).

Experimenting / practice and self-research is the only answer to progress and build knowledge by any means

The pitch modulation is important. It should drop 1-3 octaves over about 2-3 seconds. They used this effect in the lord of the rings movies. Like when the huge stone stairs crash in moria.
