Foldback vs. Volume clipping

when it comes to any mixer...
If you boost up the volume to exceptional levels with few EQ:s you'll get nice squeaky sounds, but no control over the clipping level. Now when i asked about this elsewhere, i was told that digital clipping is generally frowned upon. Why is this so?

Clipping takes away from the rest of your track. If you have one thing playing superloud ...(for instance..hard techno) it takes away from the sound of the drums. These things gotta be in balance. Just try turning it down and using a compressor. That will automatically keep it within the right range if you do it right.
