add a spectral analysis plugin and check it out ! every kick is different

well I've been trying to EQ so that I use a low, mid, and high from 3 different kicks and i was just wondering around what freq i should should start cutting the highs

get used to doing 2 first, anyway id say 4-6khz+ for the high end part of the kick. for the low end of your kick 40hz and below is way too low, the low end kick should be lowpassed around 80hz.

your kick is rubish, no high end at all you need something there, and really no low end either too punch. use this as your mid kick dont throw it away.

whats the cure for this? or at least, what would you do to fix it? use one kick with more low end and another with more high end?

id say no, i think most kicks peak around 60hz.

the cure for u would be to buy some good kick samples, learn how to eq and compress them to taste....

I think rumble is mainly just above the 40 hz mark, everything below is inaudible. So most small speakers will just pass straight over it.
I'm really not sure as to whether you should high pass your kick, on the one hand it will avoid false triggering your limiters etc, but on the other, you'll lose that stuff in a club which will jump out the subs and hit people in the chest and shake the floors etc. So if that's why your asking about the rumble, consider that.

well i'm frustrated...can't get a kick to sound anywhere near decent. guess i'll just keep at it

Personally I wouldnt waste time trying to craft a decent kick myself. Just get a good sample pack of kicks, pick one you like and get on with the rest of the song. Nobody will know if you made it yourself or not and no one will give a shit either way.
